Dental Playbox® Receives Support from Local Business
It’s always fantastic news when the Dental Playbox® receives support from the local community. Software Escrow Solutions Limited, based in Cheadle Hulme, donated £105 to Action for Sick Children to buy brushing bags for the Dental Playbox®.
What is the Dental Playbox®?
Our Dental Playbox® Project was initiated in 2007 in response to the alarming increase in dental decay in young children. It continues today to not only reduce this issue but also to stem the ever-increasing numbers of young children becoming hospitalised due to tooth decay. According to statistics, over one third of children in the UK have tooth decay by the time they start primary school!
The project’s key aim is to teach young children about the importance of good oral hygiene, healthy eating and to prepare them from an early age for a trip to the dentist. This is all done through the powerful medium of play. Play is crucial at the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) so the project slots in perfectly with the curriculum.
Fairway Primary School – Offerton
On the 28th March, Dental Playbox® Facilitator, Andrea, visited Fairway Primary School in Offerton. Reception teacher, Mrs Price, introduced Andrea to the class and the next 20 minutes were spent teaching the children all about what’s good and bad for their teeth. Andrea also showed them what to expect from a visit to the dentist, and how long to brush their teeth for.
As always, the presentation was followed by games and activities to help enhance the children’s knowledge. They dressed up as dentists and matched foods up with healthy and unhealthy teeth. At the end of the session, thanks to the donation from Software Escrow Solutions Limited, Andrea was able to provide every child who took part in the session with a brushing bag to take home. The bag contained a toothbrush, toothpaste, brushing chart, and information about where to download apps that can help with brushing.
“The children absolutely loved the session and they really enjoyed the dressing up part! They got really into the role play and learnt so much about how to look after their teeth properly. My favourite bit about the session was definitely their enthusiasm.” – Andrea
