Magical Power of Play Delivered to Royal Berkshire Hospital

Play Appeal at Royal Berkshire

Acting Chair, Margaret Jeal, presenting the toys to staff and children at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The Action for Sick Children Magical Power of Play Appeal delivers toys and play equipment to children’s wards across the UK. Play has the power to aid recovery, provide reassurance, and help children understand both their illness and their treatment.

Background

In 2015 a survey conducted by Action for Sick Children discovered that Play Specialists on children’s wards were seriously under resourced, with many buying toys for the ward out of their own money. Action for Sick Children decided to help change that, and set up MPOPA. The children’s ward is given a budget of £2,000 to buy toys.

In December 2017, Action for Sick Children presented an MPOPA box to the children’s ward at Royal Berkshire Hospital. Acting Chair of Trustees, Margaret Jeal, was lucky enough to be able to drop the box off in person. Margaret was the Paediatric Matron at Royal Berkshire for a number of years making this a very special donation.

Play Specialist, Ashley Zdanowicz said: “Donations like this provide us with such valuable resources for our patients”

2018

In 2018, Action for Sick Children are aiming to provide ten more MPOPA boxes to hospitals across the UK. The total cost of providing the ten boxes is £25,000! If you would like to make a donation to the 2018 appeal, visit the JustGiving Page.
