The Department of Health
This government site is used mainly by health and social care professionals and academics. It includes a collection of useful links to other health-related sites for a wider audience. The official statistics section can make for interesting reading, and you'll also find the latest information on the research currently being carried out by the Department of Health.

Health care commission
It's not just you who gets a check up. The Healthcare Commission is the health watchdog in England. It’s our job to check that healthcare services are meeting standards in a range of areas, including safety, cleanliness and waiting times. We have a statutory duty to assess the performance of healthcare organisations, award annual performance ratings for the NHS and coordinate reviews of healthcare by others.

NHS Direct
The NHS Direct site is a much more consumer friendly gateway to health information on the Internet. It's a huge site, which brings you the latest health stories to hit the news as well as suggestions on how you can improve your general health. The Conditions and Treatments section is especially exhaustive and lets you search the database for more information on a huge collection of diseases and conditions. This is also the place to get more information on the nurse manned health help line, NHS Direct.

Australian Association for the Welfare of Child Health
The Australian Association for the Welfare of Child Health (AWCH) is a national organisation of concerned parents and professionals advocating for the needs of children, adolescents and their families within hospitals and the health care system in Australia.
AWCH focuses upon the psycho-social non-medical needs of children in health care, and is involved in education, advocacy, information provision, support to families and health professionals, as well as research and consultation. AWCH advocates a holistic family oriented approach to the care of children, acknowledging the vital role the whole family plays in aiding the child during acute or chronic illness and in recovery.

Our Healthier Nation
The Government has stated that its aim is to 'improve health and tackle health inequalities'. This site tells you how they're going to go about this ambitious task and explains how government departments are going to work together to achieve the various health targets. You can judge for yourself just how successful they've been.

Wired for Health
This site is designed to provide resources and advice for teachers who deliver health information. The content backs up the National curriculum with a specific site called Mind Body & Soul (www.mindbodysoul.gov.uk) focussing on information for Key Stage 4 Pupils. Parents will also find plenty of helpful stuff here on subjects such as smoking, substance misuse and sexual health.

Childline
ChildLine is the UK's free, 24-hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn.

The National Association Of Hospital Play Staff
The object of the charity is to promote the physical and mental well being of children and young people who are patients in hospital, hospice or receiving medical care at home. The charity aims to promote high professional standards for play staff, and to ensure the provision of appropriate therapeutic and stimulating play facilities in hospital. NAHPS provides professional support for all hospital play staff.
