Educational Films

The purpose of the films:
These short films have been specially produced to help take away the fears and preconceptions that many children have about going to hospital. They have been directed at children and on their level. It is our intention to provide factual and informative viewing which shows that going to hospital does not have to be an unpleasant experience and one to be afraid of.
The main questions and issues the films address are:
- Why children may go to hospital
- What happens to them when they go
- Who stays with them - can Mum or Dad stay for example?
- Will it hurt?
- What happens if you have an operation
- What is Children's Outpatients
- Why do children go to Outpatients
- What happens there
- Who might you see or meet in hospital
- What is it like to have to stay in hospital a lot
- How can we help our friends who go to hospital.
Each film may be viewed separately or as part of the set. Each story deals with a different aspect of hospital life and projects can be set around any or all of these themes.
Accompanying notes have been formed as a basis for further discussion and class work. These notes have been specially written for parents or teachers and are not intended for copying or for use by the children themselves.
The films are aimed at children between the ages of 6 - 10 years, however, it is envisaged that older children may also find he content of interest for discussion and project work.
